Heritage Books Bio!
[info]herbooks
Welcome to the Heritage Books Blog! Originally, the building in which our bookshop is located was used as the Southampton Town Library, but they outgrew it and Bruce Coombs, owner of Heritage Books and Heritage Surveys, bought it in the 1980s. It served as basically a storage place for books for many years, until about two and a half years ago, when we opened our doors finally on a warm summer day. Since then we have been making improvements to the main parts of the building (which we still refer to as "the library") moving things in and out and all around. Once we had gotten that mainly under control we embarked on a huge mission, The Basement. That was a huge undertaking because it was stuffed to the rims with boxes and assorted bookshelves and the carpet was old and decrepit and beckoning to be ripped out. We spent countless hours cleaning downstairs and sorting the seemingly endless number of books. Then one beautiful spring day the basement was finally ready to be opened to the public during the town bookfair. We will continue to move books and change inventory as new things come in and old things go out. Our current big project has been revamping our website, which you can see at: http://www.heritagebks.com We hope you like it!

Hello Again!
[info]herbooks
Hello once again from the Heritage Bookstore! We know it's been a while since we last wrote, so here we are.  We are happy to report that, as of yesterday, Politically Correct Holiday Stories is no longer for sale.  We will be using that for our own entertainment, especially come Christmas.  And today, our favorite Something of Scotland has also left the shelves, after two years of being gawked at.  Very exciting news for some of us.  Nothing much has changed since the last time we wrote.  We now have 881 paperbacks for sale on Half.com, and we are continuing to enter new books on the database.  The fireplace is now home to older books with interesting-looking spines, instead of boring over-sized fiction.  Also, framed prints are now on sale and on display throughout the Old Library.  They're nice to look at (except for that creepy green one around the D's in fiction) but the best thing they have contributed is some cardboard pictures used in their packing crates, which are now tacked onto our bathroom walls.  The bathroom is much improved.  Sadly, due to recent computer problems which we are trying to keep from returning, we are currently music-less  until someone decides to bring in her iPod, with updated songs.  Video tour of the library hosted by Nancy Pearl (the action figure, not the person) is still pending.

NEW NEWS SCANDAL!!! Since it is finally nice out for the day in the fall... a few of the Heritage Books employees have been seen running loose in the parking lot. No word yet as to when they might actually come back inside! =)

Latest Updates!

LATEST UPDATES ( WARM WEATHER INCLUDED!! )

So, well nobody has been writing in here for quite some time so here are some things that have been going on lately... well since the weather is finally picking up we have started putting out tables on the front porch filled with books that are priced at $2.00 and under, it has been really nice to get to go outside and enjoy the weather too. I also continued to get the now dry dirt out off of the porch from the winter months, which would be a lot easier with a full sized broom. The ferris wheel continues to WOW customers, however like before it can not run continuously because the motor is very old and fragile.  As we speak more and more books are being put onto the database and are being scanned in order to be put onto our always improving website. The weather has been absolutely amazing with temperatures reaching into the mid to upper 80s which is almost a little too hot! But at lease it is finally looking like spring and summer rather than a really drawn out winter!!
Well I guess that is all for now!!!!

Happy Reading!

Jess

On a happy note for all of the customers... We now have a 50% off sale on all books with an inventory number less than 20700!!

HI!!!

Hello everybody!!!

We are testing to make sure all of the colors work!! (We really wanted to make something GREEN too!)  We just wanted to say "HI" to everybody and well, that's it!

Happy New Year!!
[info]herbooks
Happy New Year everybody!!

The Christmas decorations have now bit the dust and are stowed away until next year on the shelves in the closet.  (Thankfully nobody got hurt this time! ;-) Please watch out for the heavy box, as you attempt to take it down next Christmas) We have decided to put some ephemera on to the "Triangle Display" (as is marked on the Database) Bruce is planning on bringing more over here at some point. We have also moved all of the paperbacks on the moving racks downstairs, we have put them on half dot com and then changed their status in the database, however they still have numbers so make sure to look inside the front covers to see the number before they go out the doors.

We are continuing our 50% off sale but instead of it being a holiday sale it is now our "Valentines Day Sale"

Changes
[info]herbooks
Well, today we changed our blogsite around a little bit.  We gave it a new "frosty the snowman" theme, we created a little info section about how our library/bookstore came to be and we also uploaded some more user pics.  Enjoy!

a balmy winter Sunday in December
[info]herbooks
We hope everyone enjoyed their holiday!  Jessica has been busy scanning more books for the new website.  Bruce stopped by with his daughter Karen who was visiting from Connecticut.  He wanted to show off the ferris wheel in action so he flicked the switch and weee!  We showed some curious customers as well and they were quite impressed.  We don't want to burn out the motor so as mentioned in the previous entry, we'll just keep the lights on when we're open and turn the wheel on by request or in a moment of inspiration.  Overall it was a very productive day!

The Ferris Wheel is now here!!!
[info]herbooks
The completely restored and working antique wooden Ferris Wheel with circus train cars is now on display. However, since it is very old and delicate we are restricting the running of the actual wheel, (the lights are fine to run all the time)
